In recent years, the Mahindra Thar has become a symbol of off-roading in India. Following the success of the three-door Thar, Mahindra is gearing up to introduce the five-door Thar on August 15th. With a slew of teasers released, we’re getting a closer look at what the new Mahindra Thar Roxx has to offer. Here’s a sneak peek at the exciting updates for the five-door version.
All-New Extended Profile
The five-door model will be named the Thar Roxx to distinguish it from its three-door predecessor. The standout feature of the Roxx is, of course, the addition of two extra doors. This new design will improve access to the rear seats, a feature that was challenging in the three-door model. Additionally, Mahindra has extended the wheelbase, offering more interior space. The new dimensions are 4,070 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width, and 1,895 mm in height.
Enhanced Everyday Usability
This expansion in size and the addition of extra doors make the Roxx more practical. While it remains a robust off-road vehicle, it also aims to be a more user-friendly option for everyday family use.
Exterior Updates
The Thar Roxx will feature new LED headlights with integrated C-shaped DRLs that give it a modern, upscale look. It will also sport a redesigned horseshoe-shaped grille and circular fog lights. The side profile will be marked by new doors and large 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. A distinctive touch will be the unique rear glass, and the rear will showcase newly designed taillights and blacked-out door handles. Like its predecessor, the Roxx will have a spare tire mounted at the back.
Interior Updates
Inside, the Thar Roxx will offer beige upholstery with rear seats that accommodate three passengers. The dashboard layout will remain similar, but it will now feature a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system from the Mahindra XUV 3XO. Additional interior features include a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, keyless entry with push-button start, a wireless phone charger, a premium audio system, and dual-zone climate control. Recent teasers also reveal that the Roxx will come with a panoramic sunroof.
Safety Features
For safety, the Thar Roxx will come equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
Powertrain Details
The Thar Roxx will be available with two powertrain options. The first is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 150 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The second is a 2.2-litre diesel engine with 130 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Both engines will be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Off-road capabilities will be bolstered with mechanical locking differentials, terrain response modes, and hill descent control.

Mahindra plans to launch the Thar Roxx on August 15, 2024, with an expected price range between Rs 13.60 lakh and Rs 24.20 lakh. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door, Force Gurkha 5-door, and its sibling, the Scorpio-N.
